Copying Files Failed Time Out
«
on:

Hi,
I am trying to import an existing rails project.
It fails to import the project, reporting Copying Files Failed. Time Out.
?
I am running 1.00.0202 Developer Edition trial. Visual Studio SP1.
Thanks.

Can you give us a bit more information? Does the importation begin but time out before it completes or does it never begin at all? Are any files at all copied and is a new solution created? Also, how big (how many files) is the project you are trying to import?
The project importer has a 60 second timeout which should be plenty long enough for any project we've yet come across. But if it isn't, please let us know and we'll think again...
Bear in mind that you can also convert a project in place (that is, simply add the original files and directories 'in place' and create a solution to contain them). This is done with the Project Convert Wizard which is available from
File, Open
...
best wishes

OK, we'll take a look at that and report back shortly. In the meantime, I suggest using the Ruby Conversion Wizard (
File, Open, Convert
).

Hello Huw, could you please explain, where to find the project-converter, i only have the options to "open project" or "open file" under "File", and in neither option there is a convert-function....
Have the version: 01.00.0202. Maybe I'm missing something?

It's possible that the Visual Studio Settings are such that this menu option isn't displayed. The two 'standard' conversion assistants are for Java/J# and VB, so maybe if you haven't either of those languages installed VS doesn't display the Convert menu item (I'm only guessing about this as the Convert menu item has always been visible on the versions of VS which I've used).
Anyway, if this is the case, you can add Convert to a menu by selecting
Tools->Customize
, then pick the Commands page and find the File Category. Locate Convert in the right-hand pane. Now click the File menu in Visual Studio (or some other menu or submenu of your choice) and drag Convert from the Customize dialog onto the menu. Then close the Customize dialog and you should now have the Convert item on whichever menu you dropped it.
best wishes
