CS6 compatibility

Now that CS6 is officially out, should we expect any issues if we were to upgrade to CS6?
Thanks,
Jason

I can't think of any - but there's nothing like checking, so I'm downloading and installing CS6. I'll get back to you once I've checked it out.
btw, we've released Amethyst 1.6 which deals with some Flash 11 debugger issues. You might want to check that out as well.

Seems to work on a 'kick the tires' test. I can build my test project ok.
I'll do some more checking.

Hi Dermot,
There does appear to be a slight backwards/forwards compatibility issue in that CS4 allows up to version 10, but CS6 starts at version 10.3. This makes it so that a project cannot really be built by both CS4 and CS6 at the same time (by different users, for example). The big issue is that if you have imported profile data (from cs4) into your amproj profiles, then the version number and flash player is set by Amethyst directly from that old (cs4) xml data - which is version 10. CS6's 10.3 is version 12.
Converting from CS4 to CS6 can be time consuming (if you have a lot of amproj files), but only needs to be done once if you are switching completely over to CS6. Attempting to use both CS4 and CS6 at the same time appears to not be possible... would you happen to have an alternate solution to this?
Thanks,
Jason

Hi Jason,
I think you may be able do what you want by using different configurations. By default, there are two 'Debug' and 'Release'. But you can have any number you like - just use the VS Configuration manager to create a new one, copying the settings from, say, Debug, and calling it CS4, then create another one called CS6. You can then change the profile settings in the Flash IDE Project property page to reflect the various Flash player settings.
This will cause sections to be generated in the project file corresponding to each configuration (unload the project and have a look in the project file) and if you have a lot of projects, you can then copy and paste the relevant section into other project files as required, even using a script to do it if you really do have a lot or projects.
If you need to build both configs - say for a production or overnight build - use a batch build and run VS (twice) from the command line with the config (CS4 or CS6) as a parameter.

Hi Dermot,
That's a most excellent idea! Thanks.
Cheers,
Jason
