so I checked and both RIS 2.0.1 and 2.1 where installed in my system , however, when I checked the version in VS it showed 2.0.1. I then deleted 2.0.1 , and re-started VS 2010, and the RIS about still showed 2.0.1. So I decided to also delete 2.1
and install using the one click installer. Eventually running that installer generated this:

what's curious is that I could see the VS installer being downloaded i.e. I saw the entry in the file system for it and refreshing showing the file size incrementing , however something towards the end wiped that out i.e. as if an error was encountered and the installer totally rolled back.

If you have the VS Shell installed, you don't need to install it again. All you need to do is get the RiS 2.1 exe (so don't use the all-in-one installer - that installs the Shell as well - it might be that the all-in-one installer is screwing up if there is a shell already).

Just down load the plain RiS 2.1 exe, uninstall RiS 2.01 using the control panel (leave VS alone) and then install RiS 2.1

Grin, unfortunately I have by now already uninstalled VS, I think I'm hosed. Hopefully , i have the VS installer somewhere around . Let me point out that leaving the old version of RIS seems to confuse VS.

So what I will do now is:

1. find the VS stand alone installer I had grabbed from MS
2. Install it
3. Then install Ris 2.1

and hopefully it will find my registration key.
