adding files to project

I'm having various issues due to ruby project's creating duplicates of files when you add them to a project.
It seems that when I add an existing file to my project it is copied to my project directory, this is causing all sorts of problems for me, and this is not the standard practice for projects in Visual Studio (well not that i have ever encountered).
Is it possible to disable this?
Thanks,
Jim.

Do you mean you'd like an 'Add As Link' option? The default 'Add Existing Item' behaviour for VS (C# as well as Ruby) is to copy files into the current project directory. C# also has an option to 'Add As Link' which creates a link to the original item rather than a copy of the file. We don't yet implement Add as Link but we shall do so shortly.
best wishes

I see, well in C/C++ projects that is not the behavior, trust MS to cause inconsistency.
I would certainly prefer if ruby projects behaved like the C/C++, creating duplicates of files like that is a recipe for disaster and can can be a pain with your SCM.
Thanks,
Jim.

I've just been looking at how to create links in a project. There's a bit of extra processing that needs to be done to handle the link - it's not done by default. I hope to get it done at the same time as I do some more work the Cut/Paste/drap/drop between projects - I've been putting off OLE drag'n'drop for some time, but I think I've got to bite the bullet sometime. OLE is *not* my favorite programming thing
