code for linking database tables to controls

Hope some one can help me with my quest.

Been working with fxruby but with limited knowledge I am hoping to find better tutorials and help in general within this community.
Is there such a repository for showing how to code various bits and pieces that don't work out of the box in RIS?
I am thinking at present here on database binding of controls.

eg

can login and view data from within the server explorer tab but when i put on the form controls to setup the binding i can't link to the database!

I am not wanting to work with RoR at all at present just with desktop apps.

secondly how can a "compiled" or one file executable file created from within RIS?

I have worked with OCRA gem and exerb but have hit issues with them missing critical gem files thus the "compiled" program falls over.
