I have Visual Web Developer Express 2008 and the other listed requirements.
The Amethyst installer fails on my Windows Vista Ultimate x64 laptop. Any workaround?

Unfortunately, third party packages can't be installed into any of the MS Express Editions. This is due to limitations that are built in to the Express editions by Microsoft. You can either install into Visual Studo standard edition (or above) or the free Shell edition. To install the Shell edition, use the All-in-one installer which we supply for Ruby In Steel: http://www.sapphiresteel.com/spip?page=download

The term "shell" was not familiar to me.
I should have remembered the 3rd party tool limitation.

It can be a bit confusing. In the past we have tended to call the free edition of Visual Studio provided in our installer a "Ruby language edition". However, now that we are also developing Amethyst for Flex, that description no longer fits the bill.

The good news is that the Shell Edition can be used to install both Amethyst and Ruby In Steel alongside one another. The Visual Studio Shell will also co-exist with other VS installations. More information can be found here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/vsx2008/products/bb933751.aspx
