We have a pretty large rails project (~ 100k lines of code), and whenever I first open our project (or click the synchronize button) it locks up Visual Studio for on the order of 10-15 minutes.  Is there anything I can do about this?

(I am running a dual-core 3Ghz machine with 2GB RAM.  I should mention, however, that our source code is located on a network drive.  This normally isn't an issue for most operations, though).

We don't do anything special on opening projects so I can't think of anything in the Ruby In Steel code that could cause this. We once had a report of slow file saving over a network which turned out to be a Visual Studio issue. Maybe you could check to see if this could be something similar. The slow file saving thread is here: http://sapphiresteel.com/forum/index.php?topic=97.0

And this is the thread that provided the clues to the solution: http://forums.asp.net/thread/1411577.aspx

best wishes
