Amethyst and Beyond

Advance news of products and updates
by Huw Collingbourne
Sunday 9 November 2008.

It’s been a bit quiet here on the Blog lately. That’s not because things have been quiet here in the programming dungeons of SapphireSteel Software. On the contrary. We have been working on no less than three major projects - which explains why we’ve had so little time to do much blogging.

Just to keep you up to date, here’s a brief summary of what we are doing:

- Amethyst
Amethyst is a completely new programming product from SapphireSteel Software. We shall give more details of this before the end of the year. The final product will be launched early in 2009. This is not related to Ruby In Steel - it’s something totally new.

- Ruby In Steel 1.4
Development continues on Ruby In Steel and the next update (free to registered users) will be released early next year.

- Sapphire
Work also continues on new programming language, Sapphire, which will be a fast object oriented language for the Dynamic Language Runtime on .NET. We’ll releases more details of the language over the next few months but probably won’t have any public releases of code or detailed specifications until after the launch of Amethyst.

In addition, I’ll continue to add new chapters to our free programming eBook, The Book Of Ruby. Currently this already has ten chapters available for download, accompanied by 169 ready-to-run programs. I hope to add another couple of chapters before the year is out.
